BEST OF THE REST (SATURDAY)

Rory Paddock takes a look at Saturday's racing that won't be shown under the ITV spotlight and he's gone mad with his each way selections to make it a bumper start to the weekend. 13:45 GOWRAN PARK
Joseph O'Brien has his horses firing on all cylinders of late. He has two in this race and despite, based on jockey bookings, she might be the second string, the slight preference goes to the Starspangledbanner filly.
IDIOCRACY (E/W)
13:52 NEWCASTLE
All three of his career wins have come on the all-weather, so a return to this surface looks like a huge positive. With the yard hitting form, this could be the time he strikes.
ETRETAT (E/W)
14:45 CHESTER
Has been a shadow of his former self this season, but if he were at his best, he'd be a major contender. Plummeting down the weights, has a low draw and has a solid course record.
PAWS FOR THOUGHT (E/W)
15:40 NEWCASTLE
Finished a very creditable fourth of 11 in a better race when last seen here at Newcastle. Yet to win on the all-weather but has been knocking on the door at this venue.
HOSANNA POWER (E/W)
15:45 CHESTER
Far from prolific, but he has shown glimmers of hope in his last two starts. Now, off a very attractive mark, he can finish in the money.
NIGHT ON EARTH (E/W)
15:50 YORK
A drop in grade and over this longer trip should help this former course and distance winner who hails from a yard that's had plenty of success at this course.
DARK MOON RISING (E/W)
15:58 GOWRAN PARK
Looked as if a step up to one mile would be right up his street after a fair performance at Fairyhouse last time. Seemed to appreciate the better ground, and if the rain stays away, could go well at decent odds.
UNA MATATA (E/W)
16:20 YORK
One of only two course and distance winners in the lineup and a drop in grade looks a positive step by connections. Wasn't far away here last time out and more can be expected.
DICKIEBURD (E/W)
16:25 YORK
Has competed at a higher level for most of this season and despite not being the most prolific looks to have found an easier test, especially racing off such an attractive mark.
MR KING (E/W)
16:50 NEWCASTLE
Has gone close on several occasions but hasn't won since December 2023. Now 23lbs below their last winning mark and has a very interesting jockey booked for the ride.
KALGANOV (E/W)
16:55 CHESTER
A horse that's hard to catch right with a mixed bag of results of late. Not one to be overly confident with but represents a trainer who has a great record at the course and the four-year-old could add to the yards tally.
BALON D'OR (E/W)
19:45 WINDSOR
All four of their career wins has come when partnered by this jockey. Produced a much better effort last time out and a drop in class should aid their chances.
