ROYAL ASCOT - DAY 1 (TUESDAY)

It's the opening day of Royal Ascot and the Racing Daily team previews all seven races on Tuesday.

14:30 - QUEEN ANNE

The first four home in the Lockinge Stakes reoppose here, but I expect the placings to change. Lead Artist was well backed and delivered, but both he and the runner-up had the advantage of a prior run this season. In contrast, Rosallion and Notable Speech, who finished third and fourth respectively, were making their seasonal debuts.

That race should have brought them on, and I believe that will make the difference here. I expect the finish to be between those two, with Rosallion edging it. He won on this card last year, conditions are similar again, and the yard has been notably bullish in the lead up.

Among the outsiders, Docklands has been somewhat overlooked. He thrives at Ascot, with six runs here and never finishing outside the top three, and he’s sure to enjoy the ground once again.

ROSALLION (WIN)

15:05 - COVENTRY STAKES

A classy two-year-old contest that looks sure to produce some exciting types. Postmodern commands respect following a facile debut success at Yarmouth, but Gstaad gets the vote for Aidan O’Brien. The choice of Ryan Moore, he’s open to considerable improvement after making a winning start over this trip at Navan a month ago. He looked very raw throughout but overcame inexperience to beat a stablemate who has already shown useful form in Listed company first time out. A half-brother to the Crisford’s sparkling juvenile Vandeek, he has the pedigree to match and can make it two from two. Military Code also requires notable consideration now upped to six furlongs following his battling success over a subsequent scorer here second time out.

GSTAAD (WIN)

(Sam King)

15:40 - KING CHARLES III

Eleven of the last twelve winners of this race have been rated 112 or above, narrowing the field down to just four runners – Regional (114), Starlust (114), Asfoora (112) and Believing (112). Asfoora won last years’ renewal, beating Regional by a length. Her record over the minimum trip is excellent so back down to five and with Oisin Murphy back in the saddle she could prove capable of back-to-back race victories.

Mgheera followed up a Group 3 success at Parislongchamp in May with another impressive win in the Group 2 Temple stakes just two weeks later. Unbeaten since moving to Ed Walker, she’s capable of further progression so if coping with the faster ground conditions looks a solid each way option.

16:20 - ST JAMES'S PALACE STAKES

Despite the fact that this year's renewal has attracted a high-class lineup, just the seven runners means hunting for each-way value is a near impossible task.

The trio of Guineas winners Field Of Gold, Henri Matisse and Ruling Court look head and shoulders above the other quartet, and if you were trying to be a tad trickier with your punting, it's safe to say you couldn't go far wrong to have the aforementioned trio fill the top three spots.

2,000 Guineas winner and runner-up Ruling Court and Field Of Gold are likely to have their placings reversed now that they meet once again however, the Irish-based Henri Matisse looks the biggest threat to the current odds-on favourite. If I had to find an alternative to just finding the winner, I'd be tempted to put Field Of Gold and Henri Matisse in a reverse forecast. That being said I'm going to marginally side with the Gosden runner, but I'm not as convinced as his odds might have you believe.

FIELD OF GOLD (WIN)

(Rory Paddock)

17:00 - ASCOT STAKES

There’s no doubt a few of these would have like to see some rain, but that’s looking highly unlikely, which could be a blow to East India Docks chances.

Reaching High will be popular, bred to relish this trip out of a gold cup winner, he ticks a lot of boxes, but is unlikely to represent any value.

Triumph hurdle winner Poniros is unexposed over marathon trips on the flat, but represents a powerful yard.

Mr Hampstead might have preferred some rain, but he’s in cracking form currently, and looks an out and out stayer. He likes to be handy, and if David Egan gets the fractions right, he could be difficult to pass.

17:35 - WOLFERTON STAKES

Ecureuil Secret ran out a worthy winner at Epsom handling the twisting track and storming home cosily at this distance and despite the ground being much quicker in Berkshire I believe Richard Fahey's charge can produce another bold display. The Wootten Bassett colt should be on the premises under Oisin Orr again. Liberty Lane showed character to head Meydaan at Goodwood last month over this distance. The Teofilo colt reopposes the second here again in a competitive contest. Karl Burke will have him tuned up for this contest with Clifford Lee his pilot again after victory in Sussex. Meydaan is worth noting too as the Frankel colt has raced against top opposition including Illinois and Jan Brueghel not disgracing himself at all. The Crisford trainers would not put him in the Wolverton to just make up the numbers. Harry Davies partners a colt who warrants respect in this field.

18:10 - COPPER HORSE (KIERAN MCHUGH)

French Master sets the standard and off the back of a victory at Goodwood, Wathnan’s charge could be pretty hard to beat. With that in mind, you’d be looking any potential value in the field. My Mate Mozzie was third in this race last year and Warren Fentiman’s claim puts him better off this year. He could be set to give another good showing. Champagne Price has been on the rise this year and he’s related to Maid Up, who excelled over this distance. There are question marks, with the surface and the distance but if he takes to them, he could be a dark horse.
