Ballinrobe

The Course

Right-handed and compact, Ballinrobe is a sharp track with a circuit of around nine furlongs. The back straight rises steadily before the final two and a half furlongs descend towards the finish, meaning speed and tactical position generally count for more than outright stamina. Prominent racers are often favoured, particularly on the tighter traditional circuit.

The final bend can be especially important, as horses taking it awkwardly can lose considerable ground. Securing a position towards the inside can therefore prove advantageous. A newer extension along the back straight provides a more galloping alternative and appears easier for a wider range of horses to negotiate.

There are six fences to a circuit, three situated in the back straight. The obstacles are generally straightforward, although the final fence comes shortly after the turn for home and can prove tricky. Overall, Ballinrobe rewards handy, agile horses that travel strongly, hold a good position and cope comfortably with its distinctive configuration.
