Bangor

The Course

Left-handed and fairly sharp, Bangor-on-Dee is a quick, turning track with minor undulations throughout. Races are often strongly run, particularly over hurdles, with runners spending much of their time on the turn. Its sharp nature generally favours horses that race prominently and travel comfortably within themselves.

When the ground is on the quicker side, speed and track position become especially important. Horses that come off the bridle early can struggle to stay in contention, as those travelling strongly are often able to get away. Softer conditions can change the character of the course considerably, placing greater emphasis on stamina rather than outright speed.

The fences provide a decent jumping test and, while traditionally regarded as fairly stiff for a smaller jumps track, recent evidence suggests they are not excessively demanding. Fast, accurate jumpers are well suited to Bangor-on-Dee, where maintaining momentum, travelling smoothly and securing a good position can prove crucial.
