Fairyhouse
The Course
Right-handed, wide and galloping, Fairyhouse is a spacious circuit of around a mile and three quarters that provides a notably fair test. There is a steady climb on the side away from the stands before runners descend gradually along the back straight, while the three-furlong home straight rises gently towards the finish.
Its sweeping configuration allows horses plenty of room to find their rhythm, with no significant positional bias and relatively few hard-luck stories. Runners can be successful from a variety of positions, making Fairyhouse less tactically demanding than many of Ireland’s sharper tracks.
There are eleven fences to a circuit and, despite the generally forgiving nature of the course, the obstacles themselves provide a substantial examination. They rank among the stiffer fences in Ireland and can expose inexperienced or uncertain jumpers. Overall, Fairyhouse rewards galloping horses that travel comfortably and jump accurately, combining a fair layout with a demanding enough jumping test to challenge even high-class performers.
