Fakenham

The Course

Left-handed and extremely sharp, Fakenham is the tightest jumps track in Britain, with constant turning and a short run-in on both courses. Its configuration naturally suits handy, agile horses rather than long-striding gallopers, while quick, accurate jumping is especially valuable for maintaining momentum around the tight circuit.

Despite its sharp appearance, stamina is more important than might initially be expected. Races are often strongly run and underfoot conditions can prove more testing than advertised, meaning horses that expend too much energy early can struggle badly late on. Prominent racers can enjoy a tactical advantage, but patience is often rewarded when the early pace is strong.

The fences provide a stiff examination, with Fakenham recording a relatively high proportion of casualties for a smaller track. Horses that spend too long in the air can quickly lose their position. Overall, Fakenham favours nimble, efficient jumpers that travel comfortably but possess enough stamina to see out their races strongly.
