Ffos Las
The Course
Left-handed, wide and galloping, Ffos Las is a largely flat circuit of around a mile and a half, with a home straight measuring just over four furlongs. There is a slight rise along the back straight before a gentle descent towards the finish, while both the hurdle and chase courses feature relatively short run-ins. In essence, Ffos Las provides a fair test, with its spacious layout giving horses plenty of room to find their rhythm. The fences are demanding enough to test jumping ability without being overly stiff, making fluent, accurate jumping an important asset. Ground conditions can have a major influence on races. The going is frequently on the soft side of good and can become extremely testing after prolonged rain, turning contests into attritional tests of stamina. Field sizes are often relatively small, while low sun can occasionally result in obstacles being omitted in the home straight. Overall, Ffos Las rewards sound jumpers with stamina, particularly when conditions become testing.
