Kempton

The Course

Right-handed and flat, Kempton is a fair, speedy track that generally suits horses able to travel strongly and jump fluently. Its fences are relatively straightforward, although recent seasons have seen a higher casualty rate than their appearance might suggest. Maintaining rhythm and momentum is particularly important around this largely uncomplicated circuit. Races can remain competitive until relatively late, with plenty of runners often still in contention turning for home. From there, however, the field can quickly become stretched. The run from the home turn to the final obstacle is short, meaning horses travelling comfortably can conserve valuable energy, while those already under pressure may struggle to sustain their effort.

Ground conditions can significantly alter the test. Although Kempton is typically associated with speed, soft or heavy going places much greater emphasis on stamina and can make the course considerably more demanding. Overall, Kempton rewards slick jumpers that travel efficiently and have enough stamina to finish their races strongly.
