Leopardstown
The Course
Left-handed, wide and galloping, Leopardstown is a largely level oval circuit of around a mile and three quarters with sweeping turns and a gradual rise from the final bend. It is regarded as one of Ireland’s fairest jumps tracks, providing ample room for horses to find their rhythm and generally producing relatively few hard-luck stories.
The fences provide a stiff but fair examination. Three obstacles arrive in quick succession along the back straight and can test less-accomplished chasers, making fluent, adaptable jumping important. The finishing straight is relatively short but rises deceptively towards the line, placing greater emphasis on stamina than the course initially appears to demand.
The inner hurdles track is noticeably sharper than the main chase course, making tactical speed and prominent positioning particularly valuable, especially in large fields. Overall, Leopardstown rewards high-class galloping horses that travel efficiently and jump accurately, while its rising finish ensures sufficient stamina must be conserved for the closing stages.
