Tramore

The Course

Right-handed, tight and heavily undulating, Tramore is an exceptionally compact circuit where agility, balance and course experience are major advantages. The track measures only around seven to eight furlongs and features sharp turns alongside significant climbs and descents, making it one of Ireland’s trickier courses to ride.

Prominent positioning is generally beneficial, although riders must avoid using excessive energy through the demanding uphill sections. A long downhill run follows the climb away from the stands, where allowing horses time to balance rather than forcing the pace can prove crucial. The short home straight then rises towards the winning post, providing a stiff final test.

There are five fences to a circuit, with the second-last positioned after the lengthy downhill section and immediately before the uphill straight. The obstacles themselves are relatively forgiving, which suits such a technically demanding layout. Overall, Tramore regularly produces course specialists, rewarding nimble horses and tactically astute riders capable of handling its unusual combination of sharp bends and dramatic gradients.
