Uttoxeter
The Course
Left-handed and sharp, Uttoxeter is a tight track where the ability to travel comfortably and maintain a good position can prove crucial. On quicker ground, prominent racers are often favoured, particularly over fences, with horses under pressure early frequently struggling to work their way back into contention.
Despite its sharp configuration, Uttoxeter can become a severe stamina test during winter. Soft or heavy ground regularly produces gruelling conditions, making the ability to see out the distance particularly important. Many jumping errors can occur through fatigue late in races rather than because of especially demanding obstacles, with the fences considered fairly average in terms of stiffness.
Tactics are similar over hurdles and fences, while racing wide along the back straight is not necessarily a disadvantage due to the slight āSā shape of the course. Overall, Uttoxeter rewards strong travellers on faster ground, but stamina becomes increasingly important when conditions deteriorate.
