Warwick
The Course
Left-handed and largely flat, Warwick is a sharp track characterised by tight bends, despite featuring a lengthy back straight. There is a fairly steep climb shortly after the winning post before the course gradually descends towards the turn into the back straight, adding another dimension to this speed-orientated circuit.
Jumping quickly and accurately is particularly important over fences, with five obstacles arriving in rapid succession along the back straight. This can prove challenging for inexperienced chasers, although Warwick actually records one of the lowest casualty rates in Britain. The hurdles course is especially sharp and can suit speedy, agile horses, including those with previous Flat experience.
Prominent racers and front-runners generally enjoy an advantage on both courses, as making up ground around the tight turns can be difficult. Longer-distance chases can provide a contrasting test, often being strongly run throughout. Overall, Warwick rewards speed, fluent jumping and good tactical positioning, while stamina remains essential over extended trips.
