Worcester

The Course

Left-handed, flat and galloping, Worcester is a fair track with easy, sweeping turns that allow horses to maintain their rhythm. Its long home straight provides plenty of time for challenges to develop, although on the quicker ground commonly encountered during summer, racing handily is often more effective than relying on a late charge.

The portable fences are relatively straightforward, making Worcester one of the easier chase courses in Britain to negotiate and an attractive venue for novice chasers. Despite this, some horses have a tendency to jump or drift to their right in the home straight, which can cost valuable ground at a crucial stage.

Worcester races predominantly during the warmer months, with its proximity to the River Severn making winter flooding a significant issue. Overall, it provides a fair examination with few obvious quirks, rewarding fluent jumpers that travel comfortably and, particularly on fast ground, maintain a prominent position throughout.
