Toby Darby heads to Keeneland for Future Stars Friday at the Breeders' Cup, with selections in all five juvenile Grade 1s as the next generation of stars take centre stage.

The Breeders' Cup gets under way with the Juvenile Turf Sprint, and Libertango is a deserving favourite after an excellent season for George Boughey. The Albany and Lowther winner is the only filly to have beaten Sun Goddess this year and was just a length behind her in the Cheveley Park last time.

She has drawn well in stall three, and with Billy Loughnane unable to make the weight, Flavien Prat has been called up for the ride. She is one of my most confident selections of the week.

My only worry is the relative lack of pace in the race, which is why, despite being strong on Libertango, I will also hedge with Harper's Corner. She made all to win the Schuylerville at Saratoga and set the pace in the Matron on her turf debut before being collared late.

The drop back from six furlongs to five and a half should be no problem, and if left alone in front she could be very dangerous from stall ten, albeit Libertango has the class to get on top late.

Miss Monica is the stylish Bob Baffert type we have come to expect at the Breeders' Cup and she was a runaway winner of the Del Mar Debutante last time.

However, she has to go an extra furlong and a half around two turns in the Juvenile Fillies, which will be a new challenge and not one I am keen to take on at the prices.

Emphatic is unbeaten in three and won the key trial, the Alcibiades, over course and distance earlier this month, so she would be my preference of the top pair, although stall ten means she will need a smooth trip.

The each-way value lies with Revenge Of The Sis. Still a maiden, she was pitched straight into stakes company on debut behind Emphatic in the Sorority at Monmouth back in August, blew the start and still ran on for third.

She then made a very eye-catching move from last to finish third in the Grade 1 Frizette, and as the only real closer in the field she is a huge price to run into the place money.

Sun Goddess will be the banker of the meeting for some and it is easy to see why given her form, with seven wins from eight starts including the Cheveley Park. She does step up beyond seven furlongs for the first time, though, and the addition of Amusingly will not have pleased her backers.

Francis-Henri Graffard blamed the mile trip when she was beaten and preferred the seven-furlong Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère on Arc weekend, which she won against the colts, but this mile around Keeneland should be well within her range.

I am intrigued by Vanta. The Surfer Girl winner travels exceptionally well and has a turn of foot to die for. She will need luck in running, which is never guaranteed in a big field, but she is definitely overpriced.

The Juvenile has been an ante-post graveyard for me so far. Inshallah was ruled out injured and Champagne winner U. S. S. Valor then swerved the race in favour of a quiet winter ahead of a Kentucky Derby campaign.

I settled on Gaudreau this week, only for Chad Brown to scratch him on Wednesday with a fever, leaving just seven runners.

Hughes is the clear one to beat for Bob Baffert, but his stablemate Salahudin, winner of the Iroquois at Churchill Downs, would be my hopeful pick at a price, albeit not one I can back with any great confidence.

Aidan O'Brien has won the last four renewals of the Juvenile Turf and runs four here, including the favourite Great Barrier Reef. However, he has anything but a great barrier to work from out in stall 14, a draw that has been overcome only twice in 19 runnings, both times by O'Brien himself.

He also tackles a mile for the first time, and I would be surprised if he goes off favourite.

Avec Toi has disappointed on his last two starts, but his early-season form would put him well in the mix.

I am going to side with Haffner. I am happy to forgive his run in the National Stakes, when O'Brien felt the soft ground at the Curragh was against him, and he bounced straight back to win the Royal Lodge over a mile at Newmarket.

He is well drawn in stall four, right alongside stablemate Florida Bay in three, who I also think can outrun his odds.
