Sam King focuses his attention solely on Tuesday's action from Pontefract and picks out two runners not to ignore.
16:18 PONTEFRACT
Roger Varian is still operating at a healthy 20% strike rate over the last fortnight and it’s interesting he sends Egotistical up to Pontefract for her handicap debut. The Newmarket-based handler has a 25% strike rate at the Yorkshire venue having saddled six winners from 24 runners in the last five seasons, so it’s fair to say he’s selective with his runners there. This daughter of Acclamation ran well to finish third behind a subsequent winner before being well-placed at Redcar in April to get off the mark on her fourth outing. She’s open to further progress now moving into handicap company and might prove too good off an opening mark of 71. The proven course and distance scorer Diamont Katie could be the biggest danger.
EGOTISTICAL (WIN) 17:18 PONTEFRACT
Believemenow was disappointing when well-held at Doncaster seventeen days ago, but he pulled too hard in the early stages over six furlongs and can surely bounce back now returned to the minimum trip. He represents a trainer in Nigel Tinkler who has been in excellent form of late having had six winners from 22 runners in the last two weeks, while his Beverley second has been well-advertised with the third finishing an excellent runner-up at Thirsk since. He remains zero from eight overall, but you’d be disappointed if he wasn’t claiming a race of this nature sooner rather than later. Queen Sana has been consistent of late and may give the selection most to think about.
