TODAYS TIPS (FRIDAY)

16:55 GOODWOOD

It will be interesting to see which engagement Transparent takes up in the coming days. Both look like typically competitive three-year-old handicaps, although Transparent surely has something up his sleeve off a mark of 86. Second behind King Casper at Newmarket on his handicap debut, Tom Ward’s son of Mehmas looks feasibly treated with the third home that day, Fearnot, going on to blitz his rivals at Ascot next time out. Clive Cox’s charge has since been handed a mark of 94, while the fourth-place horse Watching Stars has also gone up 4lb having pushed subsequent London Gold Cup runner-up Lightening Mann to within a neck at Newmarket. Ed Walker’s recent Newmarket scorer Fort George also needs respect, while Sea Founder looks dangerous from towards the foot of the weights.

TRANSPARENT (WIN)

17:05 BATH Adrian Wintle has saddled six winners from twenty runners over the last fortnight, operating at a very healthy 30% strike-rate. His son of Twilight Son, Dappled Light, picked up in fine style to land the spoils over this mile trip at Chepstow ten days ago, leaving the impression that a follow-up success under a penalty could be on the cards. The 5lb penalty he encounters for that victory leaves him 1lb well-in at the weights, and he looks to hold every chance of completing a quickfire double. The chief danger could come from Fighting Queen, who added to her breakthrough triumph over course and distance with a good second when upped two furlongs nine days ago. Claxton Bay is another worth noting now back on turf. DAPPLED LIGHT (WIN) written by Sam King
