Heaven Smart won well from the front last week, improving for a wind operation and the drop in trip to 2m 4f after numerous attempts at 3m. Brian Hughes can make all again under a 7lb penalty. Cawthorne Cracker is having another go at 2m 4f after a respectable second at Uttoxeter. Mr Mahler should find an opening soon but may be best watched after a fair absence.

Aberama Gold has continued in good form in the Portland Handicap and Ayr Silver Cup after a pair of 6f wins in August and will appreciate this weaker opposition in a very average race for the grade and prize money. Jessica Macey’s consistent pair of Blind Beggar and Jenever have more form over 5f, a remark that can also apply to course specialist Fantasy Master. Most of the rest would usually have little pretensions to running in a Class 2 Handicap but connections should be rewarded for chancing their arm.
