TODAYS TIPS (THURSDAY)

Alan Morris previews his best two bets of the day this Thursday.

16:17 SEDGEFIELD

Mersey Street is in sound form and handled this unique track well in winning last time out for a yard that will want to crack on now. He clearly stays further and this looks a weaker race on paper than his last win and can boss this small field. Too Cool Forshrule is respected for an under-rated yard that has maintained his ability. He was backed into favouritism in Mersey Street’s win but unseated at the first and is the main danger here again.

MERSEY STREET (WIN)

19:00 NEWCASTLE

A particularly moderate rider-restricted classified stakes division and it looks encouraging that Faye Bramley booked the experienced Callum Hutchinson early for Triple Charged with a 3rd at 18-1 on his only ride for the stable. The 4yo maiden is no high performance engine and was slowly away from a poor draw at Wolverhampton but was rushed up wide to race prominently before tiring and looking a little awkward in the finish. He was well-backed there on his second run for the stable and has dropped a long way from his Karl Burke form and rating during his stint at Lisa Williamson’s yard. Getting cover on a straight track might help and an early each-way price might ease concerns over head carriage and finishing efforts! Course and distance winners Beneficiary and Fircombe Hall will be rightly popular and Sedgemoor was backed as if he might show something again soon.
