14:10 YARMOUTH
This race revolves around the expected participation of warm favourite Crowd Quake after finishing 2nd three days ago over nearly 12f, soon after two quick 10f wins in May. Stuart Williams’ 4yo has been leading from a fair way out in his 10f wins so 1m on soft may not be a great hindrance but soft ground is also a new factor in the equation.
United Force is recommended as an in-form each-way alternative with strong course and distance successes and enough soft and Southwell form in the book to provide encouragement too.
UNITED FORCE (E/W)
18:20 CARLISLE
The standard of amateur jockeys has improved significantly in recent years and angles in to a race are less clearcut than before but there is a gap here between some experienced and very inexperienced pilots. Simon Walker still tends to be overbet but has a strong candidate in Sir Garfield. If the expected rain arrives here at Carlisle horses like him with 7f and soft form could be useful on this stiff track and they could even come up the stands rail or all over in some cases, negating any low draw advantage. Sir Maxi looks a strong contender on paper but appears initially weak in the market and it remains to be seen whether his confidence and form has been affected by being brought down two runs ago. A first-time visor over a stiffer trip could help.
