TODAYS TIPS (TUESDAY)

Sam King looks to the all-weather for his best bets this Tuesday with action from Newcastle and Southwell.

15:12 NEWCASTLE

Seven Fires looks like the type to continue progressing with racing and she can get off the mark third time out in the six-furlong maiden at Newcastle. Trainer Jack Channon has been operating at a 20% strike rate for the last fortnight and I suspect this well put-together daughter of Sioux Nation has more to offer. A pleasing fourth on debut at Lingfield, she took a step forward when third behind a potentially useful type at Chelmsford 26 days ago, shaping as though she would come on for the run having raced freely in the early stages. She's been handed the near side rail draw in gate eleven here and could take some pegging back off the front end as a result.

SEVEN FIRES (WIN)

17:00 SOUTHWELL

Homer Stokes has been tumbling down the ratings as a reflection of his recent performances, but he bounced back to form when dropped to this lowly level last time and ought to take some stopping if backing it up. A former course and distance winner of 60, he now finds himself rated 10lb lower and eligible for classified company. The consistent Woodraff has also been knocking on the door at this sort of level but Homer Stokes has the better draw in gate two, while the former needs to navigate stall eight of eight should he please to snap the losing streak. With all that in mind and Lewis Edmunds in the saddle, David Barron's eight-year-old, who is three from nine over course and distance, gets the vote to come out on top.
