Paul Nicholls has an excellent strike rate when sending his chasers down to Newton Abbot and looks to have a great chance of adding to those winners with Dancingontheedge who was an encouraging second on reappearance over hurdles last month, only beaten by an in-form, race-fit rival. His chase debut here at Newton Abbot in September last year was full of promise and with the benefit of that experience coupled with the pipe-opener last month he could prove tough to beat.

Morfee was only beaten a head when last seen and the winner has gone on to win again since so the form is working out well and he looks the main danger, with last time out winner Unspeakable also likely to remain competitive despite being raised 5lbs.

DANCINGONTHEEDGE (WIN)

Prior course and distance winner Time To Bite has won three of his last four and is effectively 3lbs well in despite a 7lbs penalty so needs considering despite this being tougher race than he’s previously encountered.

Opening Bid likes it around Newton Abbot (three wins from seven) and could prove a danger if granted an easy time of things on the front end, while Somespring Special has been in good form since switching stable, yet preference is for Paddy De Pole who had an excellent summer campaign over hurdles last year, posting three wins and two thirds over similar trips to today, and looks on a lenient opening mark now switching to larger obstacles.
