TV TIPS (FRIDAY)

The St Leger Festival continues at Doncaster on Friday, with five races shown live on ITV and plenty of competitive action to get stuck into.

The two-year-olds once again take centre stage early on, while the Leger Legends provides its usual mix of familiar faces and big-priced possibilities. Group-race action follows later on the card, with some high-class performers taking to the Town Moor track.

We preview all five televised races and pick out our best bets for day two of the St Leger Festival.

13:15 DONCASTER

Just like on the opening day, the two-year-olds kick off the televised action and a pair of Godolphin-owned runners head the betting, but it's Rock Of Montreal who makes more appeal.

The yard boasts a near 25% strike rate here at Doncaster and the unbeaten colt looks the one to side with, despite appearing to be the owner's second string based on jockey bookings.

Fellow unbeaten contender Forbidden Fire commands respect, while Karl Burke's Varzi looks another capable of upsetting the main protagonists.

ROCK OF MONTREAL (WIN)

13:50 DONCASTER

Some familiar faces return to the saddle for the Leger Legends, with the likes of Adam Kirby, Sammy-Jo Bell, Niall Madden and Tom Scudamore back in action.

Kirby partners Caragio, while Bell has an excellent record in this race having ridden the winner on four previous occasions. Her mount Anthropologist therefore demands plenty of respect.

Three-year-old Celtic Chariot also makes the shortlist and has the added benefit of a previous course victory to his name.

However, the two we're siding with are partnered by former jockeys better known for their exploits over obstacles.

Grand National-winning rider Niall Madden takes the mount on Tolstoy, who may not arrive in the best of form but represents a local yard and has dropped to an increasingly attractive mark. That makes him interesting at a big price.

Former jumps jockey Tom Scudamore could also have a solid chance aboard Scott Dixon's Bella Bisbee, whose proven course-and-distance form is a major positive.

This isn't a race to approach with too much confidence, but with big-priced winners featuring in previous renewals, taking a chance on a couple at bigger odds could pay dividends.

TOLSTOY (E/W) BELLA BISBEE (E/W)

14:25 DONCASTER

This looks an open renewal of the Group 2 contest and Final Objective appears drastically overpriced after filling the runner-up spot at this level last time.

He appeared to appreciate the softer ground at York on that occasion and conditions should once again play to his strengths. If reproducing that performance, he looks capable of getting firmly involved.

Another with serious claims is Ballydoyle's Carry The Flag, who also finished second on his latest appearance. That effort came on genuinely soft ground, so conditions shouldn't pose any concerns for him either.

Neither horse currently features among the top three in the betting and that could prove an error from the odds compilers, with both making plenty of each-way appeal at the prices.

Of those towards the head of the market, Sale Shark and Flann Sunna are respected and cannot be ignored.

FINAL OBJECTIVE (E/W) CARRY THE FLAG (E/W)

15:00 DONCASTER

Multiple Group 1 winner Caballo De Mar possesses arguably the strongest form in the book, although both of his victories at the highest level came in France and he hasn't quite reproduced those performances on home soil.

A previous victory over today's rival Queenstown nevertheless makes George Scott's runner the obvious danger, but we're backing the Ballydoyle contender to reverse that French form.

Ryan Moore's mount has some serious form to his name, particularly from last season, and a relatively light campaign this term means he should arrive here fresher than most. If returning to something close to his best, he could prove difficult to beat.

Winday is a lightly raced three-year-old who shouldn't be dismissed too readily, although this represents a significant rise in class and place money may be the best he can hope for against these more established stayers.

For punters searching for an each-way alternative, Beylerbeyi is the one who catches the eye. Ian Williams has an excellent reputation with his staying Flat runners and course form counts for plenty at Doncaster. With two wins and a placed effort from four visits to Town Moor, Beylerbeyi shouldn't be overlooked.

Queenstown is the selection to win, with Beylerbeyi fancied to chase him home.

QUEENSTOWN (WIN) QUEENSTOWN – BEYLERBEYI (ST FCAST)

15:35 DONCASTER

It may be a little unkind to the other eight contenders, but the final race shown live on terrestrial television could develop into a battle between two progressive runners.

Current favourite Silver Lake has improved with each appearance this season and arrives seeking a fourth consecutive victory. She's been raised another 6lb for her latest success, but that may not be enough to halt her upward trajectory.

The biggest danger could be Ralph Beckett's Nochebuena, who already has a course-and-distance victory to her name despite having made just four starts. She needs to take another step forward, but remains lightly raced and there could be further improvement to come now returning to Doncaster.

Silver Lake is taken to continue her winning sequence, while Nochebuena looks the most likely to follow her home and also makes each-way appeal.
