TV TIPS (SATURDAY)

It's Derby Day as the ITV cameras remain at Epsom for what is set to be an action packed day of live racing. With six races set to be broadcasted on Saturday we preview every live race. 13:30 EPSOM

Never So Brave failed to fire on his seasonal return at Sandown, but that effort is easy enough to forgive given the standard he set last season. This doesn't look the strongest Group 3 and if returning anywhere near his best, he sets the standard.

Alcantor is a consistent performer at this level and should once again give a good account, although he often finds one or two too strong in the closing stages.

Poet Master looks the chief each-way threat. Karl Burke's charge has run with credit in some competitive contests and another placed effort looks well within reach.

Pacific Mission disappointed on her latest start, but this lightly-raced three-year-old remains an interesting contender. The weight-for-age allowance is a notable advantage and her previous Group 2 success, along with a placing at Group 1 level, suggests she has the class required if bouncing back to form.

Shes Perfect and Arisaig renew rivalry following their clash at Goodwood last month. There should be little between them once again, although Arisaig could be capable of reversing the placings this time around.

Despite attracting only a small field, this promises to be a high-quality contest. Calandagan arrives with arguably the strongest credentials and the French raider has done little wrong throughout his career. Jan Brueghel finished ahead of him in this race twelve months ago, but there is every chance that form can be reversed.

Convergent is respected and could capitalise should either of the market leaders fail to produce their best.

Often billed as the fastest race in Britain, this unique downhill sprint is sure to be fiercely competitive once again.

Stormy Impact appeals at the prices. A previous course-and-distance winner, she now races from a mark below her last winning rating and should appreciate the softer conditions. A favourable draw only strengthens her claims if able to put a below-par effort behind her.

King Of Light is another who should be suited by conditions. He proved his effectiveness from a lofty mark when finishing second last time and is expected to be competitive despite facing a stronger assignment.

Lexington Blitz arrives seeking back-to-back victories after a determined success last time out. The rise in the weights asks a bigger question, but Robert Cowell's runner remains open to further progress.

Kinswoman has never finished outside the first three on turf and arrives with a profile that demands respect. William Haggas' filly continues to progress and looks sure to have plenty of supporters in the market.

Dyonisos and former course-and-distance winner Dream Composer also warrant consideration in a fascinating sprint.

Ryan Moore has opted for Benvenuto Cellini, but Aidan O'Brien has a long history of landing major Classics with runners not considered his stable's first string and Pierre Bonnard could represent some value.

Although yet to win this season, he showed plenty of promise as a juvenile and his previous success on softer ground suggests conditions should hold no fears. At the prices, he makes considerable appeal from an each-way perspective.

Item remains unbeaten and produced a dominant display in the Dante Stakes at York. However, softer ground poses an unknown and there are still concerns about how well he will settle around Epsom's unique contours.

Maltese Cross and James J Braddock both earned their place in the line-up with determined victories last time out and neither should be underestimated.

For those searching for a bigger-priced alternative, Bay Of Brilliance is worth noting. Ralph Beckett's colt shaped as though a step up in trip would suit when going close on his latest start and could outrun his odds.

Alderman also deserves a mention. While still a maiden, he has shown enough ability to suggest he may perform better than the market expects.

Allegresse has yet to build on the promise shown during his juvenile campaign and, while it would be dangerous to dismiss him entirely, his current odds offer little appeal.

Both Hell Yeah He Did and Starlight Time return from lengthy absences after ending last season with victories. Of the pair, preference is for Starlight Time, who has the added benefit of previous winning form at Epsom and represents a yard that excels with horses returning from a break.

Folk Pageant and Savvy Disko are recent winners who also enter calculations and should not be overlooked.
