A two-year-old contest kicks off Saturday's live action and Lily Pink looks likely to head the betting after showing plenty of promise when runner-up on debut.

Charlie Johnston's filly should have learnt plenty from that experience and a repeat of that effort would see her go close for a yard that traditionally does well at this time of year.

However, with 13 runners currently entered and several making their racecourse debuts, there is plenty of merit in searching for an each-way alternative at a bigger price.

Roku Nana represents a leading yard and warrants respect, but preference is for Michael Bell's Fastidyah. Her dam has already produced several winners, including on softer ground, while the stable boasts an impressive record with its two-year-olds. She ticks enough boxes to suggest she could comfortably outrun her current odds.

Another maiden contest that's difficult to decipher as Sandown's live action gets underway.

Thi Qar and Baassrah both arrive after finishing runner-up when last seen and should be capable of playing a part, while Godolphin newcomer Flower Show is particularly interesting.

Charlie Appleby's string has returned to form and his well-bred debutant could be capable of making her presence felt at the first time of asking.

It's not a race to get too heavily involved in, but a tentative vote goes to Flower Show to make a winning start to her career.

FLOWER SHOW (WIN)

14:00 GOODWOOD

Forty Years On has done little wrong in her career to date and fully deserves a crack at this level. She was a convincing winner when last seen and looks capable of overcoming an 8lb rise, but the size of the field makes searching for alternatives at bigger prices worthwhile.

Although it would be difficult to put punters off George Scott's runner, two former course-and-distance winners from the same yard catch the eye.

David O'Meara sends both Rhoscolyn and Darkness back to Goodwood, a track where the pair have enjoyed plenty of success from considerably higher marks. At the age of eight their best days may be behind them, but they are becoming increasingly well handicapped and the likely underfoot conditions should hold no fears.

Both make each-way appeal at bigger prices.

The weight-for-age allowance could prove significant for the improving three-year-old Kockvastau, who arrives seeking a hat-trick of consecutive victories.

Further improvement is required now stepping into stronger company, but his progressive profile suggests there could be more to come and he looks the one to beat.

For those searching for an each-way option, King's Charter makes some appeal. He may not be the most prolific, but has performed well in similar company, albeit at Meydan, and looks capable of getting involved.

Alcarath and Tribal Chief look best of the remainder.

Tony Montana has been knocking firmly on the door this season and produced arguably his best effort of the campaign when fourth in an ultra-competitive handicap last time.

He should be capable of another bold showing, although there remains a suspicion that one or two could prove too strong once again.

Preference is for High Degree, who returned to winning ways last time and looks capable of defying a rise in the weights. William Haggas' runner remains open to further progress and is taken to complete the double.

HIGH DEGREE (WIN)

Moon Target currently heads the betting but, despite the market support, the relatively unprolific filly looks worth taking on in an open contest.

Unbeaten Secret Of Life has the valuable benefit of a course-and-distance success to her name, although further improvement will be required now stepping into Group company.

Kon Tiki was an impressive winner last time and, providing that effort hasn't left its mark, she looks capable of taking another step forward and getting involved at the business end.

Further down the betting, both So Regal and Pacific Mission look potentially overpriced, with the latter particularly interesting at bigger odds.

This Group 2 contest has a particularly open look to it and it's difficult to be overly confident about any of the nine runners, so a degree of caution is advised.

Cases can be made for much of the field, but preference is for former course winner Zavateri. He is yet to get his head in front this season but has performed with credit in top-class company throughout the campaign.

The drop in grade should suit and, having already finished ahead of some of today's opposition, he could take advantage and return to the winners' enclosure.

Qirat would be dangerous to dismiss given what he's capable of producing on his best form, while fellow course winner Arisaig could sneak into the places at a bigger price.

ZAVATERI (WIN)

The unbeaten trio of Breacher, Rock Montreal and Sonic Angel appear to set the standard, but it's difficult to look beyond Roger Varian's Rock Montreal following an impressive debut success.

He pulled clear in taking fashion on that occasion and, with improvement likely after just one racecourse appearance, he could prove difficult to beat.

Those searching for something at a bigger price could consider Dover Street. He stepped forward considerably from his debut when finishing second last time and another improved performance could see him muscle his way into the minor money.

A hot-looking maiden rounds off the five live races from Goodwood and we're opting for something slightly different to finish proceedings.

Tropical Sands has improved with each of her three starts and should be involved once again, although her experience hasn't yet translated into a victory.

Evening Call made an encouraging start to her career when finishing third on debut and should take a step forward with that racecourse experience behind her.

Newcomer Marquetry is another to consider. She represents a leading yard with a strong record with its younger runners and, if sufficiently forward for her debut, could easily make her presence felt.

With solid cases to be made for all three, Evening Call, Marquetry and Tropical Sands are taken to fill the leading positions.
