Field Of Gold cruised to victory in a convincing performance in the Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh.
The evens favourite took advantage of that title, hitting where it counted and securing a win with a three-and-a-three-quarter-length lead over fellow Juddmonte-owned Cosmic Year.
Field of the Gold came off the back of a defeat in Newmarket three weeks ago, after Kieran Shoemark left it just a little too late to take the win and was beaten by half a length.
This time though, he made smooth progress under new jockey Colin Keane from three furlongs out and led about one and a half furlongs out to see out the competition.
The victor finished on evens, and the run certainly reflected those odds in the end.
He follows his sire Kingman into the winner’s enclosure, who was also trained by John Gosden- and was narrowly beaten at Newmarket before seeing success at Curragh.
‘It’s a sense of relief more than anything,’ said John Gosden.
‘It’s the same as Kingman, his father didn’t go quite right at Newmarket but it’s gone right today.
‘He’s quickened up well and shown a lot of class, the second horse is a very good horse, the third horse is a group one winner.
‘I think the form is incredibly solid here.’ written by Holly White
