The Ebor Handicap is one of the most prestigious and longest-established horse races in the UK, held annually at York Racecourse as part of the York Ebor Festival. Established in 1843, the race was named after the historic city of York and the term "Ebor" derived from its Latin name, Eboracum. Initially created as a race for three-year-olds and upwards, the Ebor quickly gained a reputation for attracting top-quality thoroughbreds and iconic trainers. As Europe’s most valuable flat handicap race, it has created a rich tapestry of memorable moments and legendary horses over nearly two centuries, solidifying its status within the British racing calendar.

Throughout its history, the Ebor Handicap has evolved, adapting to changes in racing practices and societal trends, yet it has retained its core traditional values. Today, the Ebor Handicap represents not only a significant race in the sporting calendar but also a celebration of heritage, expertise, and the sheer thrill of horse racing in one of England's most picturesque settings.

Contenders:

At this stage of declarations runners who were involved at Goodwood and Royal Ascot are historically considered for this event. DAIQUIRI BAY has achieved some excellent outcomes this term. Alan King's four year old New Bay colt won the Copper Horse Stakes by a head in a rattling run. He had previously won at Newmarket and loves a good pace and huge field. He definitely stays the trip and will go close. The Wathnan Racing contender HOPEWELL ROCK won well at Goodwood under Ryan Moore scooting away from the field in a strongly paced affair. Another sired by New Bay he will stay and challenge in the latter stages. OPPORTUNITY ran well at Goodwood as a runner up to Enfjaar in the Glorious Stakes and we know of old that the trainer of the Frankel gelding likes a crack at this prize.
