GLORIOUS GOODWOOD - DAY 1 (TUESDAY)

Irish raider Diego El Queso has improved with each start this season and has done little wrong in 2026. Further progress is required if he's to take this, but the market appears to have latched onto him and he makes limited appeal from a value perspective.

Quai De Bethune has produced only modest efforts so far but has shown enough ability on both starts to suggest there's more to come. Representing powerful connections and with James Doyle taking the ride, he looks capable of significantly outrunning his odds.

Another worth considering at a price is Tony Montana. While hardly prolific, he's run well in several major festival handicaps and now races from a workable mark.

Torito also commands respect, while outsiders Bolster and Henlein could easily outrun their lofty odds.

Charlie Appleby's Al Hudaiba would be unbeaten but for unseating his rider after jinking at Yarmouth. There's no doubting his ability, although he still possesses a few quirks. The son of Dark Angel did well to reel in the highly regarded Abraham Lincoln when landing the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket's July Festival, and first-time blinkers could help him settle even better.

He's preferred to the Aidan O'Brien-trained Haffner, who won a typically strong Newmarket maiden at the same meeting, while the unbeaten Dr Rascal also warrants serious consideration at slightly bigger odds.

AL HUDAIBA (WIN)

Seven furlongs around Goodwood looks the ideal test for Lake Forest, with a possible Sussex Stakes bid to follow on Wednesday. William Haggas' former Golden Eagle winner was the best of those coming from off the pace when runner-up in this race twelve months ago and arrives here in excellent heart following a never-nearer fifth in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes over six furlongs.

He impressed when winning over this trip at Haydock on his seasonal reappearance and is fancied to gain compensation by getting the better of Qirat, who sprang a major surprise in last year's Sussex Stakes.

LAKE FOREST (WIN)

Scandinavia is now six from six since the application of cheekpieces and understandably heads the market. Aidan O'Brien's outstanding stayer won this race last season en route to St Leger glory and once again holds outstanding claims.

That said, he had only a head to spare over Trawlerman in the Ascot Gold Cup last month, with the runner-up making his first appearance since Champions Day. That outing should have brought him nicely forward, and the drop back to two miles is unlikely to pose any problems. At the current prices, he's narrowly preferred.

TRAWLERMAN (WIN)

One of the first major cavalry charges of the festival, this fiercely competitive sprint handicap looks a real puzzle.

Richard Spencer is well represented with five runners, of whom Twilight Calls makes the most appeal. Although that excellent effort came over a furlong further, he finished a highly creditable fifth in last year's Stewards' Cup from a mark 7lb higher than today's. Now carrying half a stone less following a solid victory at Newmarket, he deserves a place on any punters' shortlist.

Adrestia finished runner-up in this contest twelve months ago and also returns from a lower mark. That reduced burden could be enough to see him go one better this time around.

Toca Madera has yet to win at Goodwood but has produced several solid efforts here and could easily outperform market expectations.

Handicap debutant Jasour is another fascinating contender. Having competed in Group company without quite managing to land a blow, the five-year-old could still have further improvement to come now entering handicap company.

Near the foot of the weights, Vintage Clarets and course-and-distance winner Tatterstall also merit consideration.

Mrs Fitri Hay's trio of Democracy Dilemma, Seven Questions and Dyonisis command plenty of respect, while the well-travelled Desert Cop is another capable of picking up valuable prize money if returning to his best.

Agrippa made a favourable impression on debut before proving slightly disappointing when well fancied last time, despite receiving weight from the eventual winner. This is another step up in class and he may prove vulnerable once again.

Launch Sequence emerged as the obvious eye-catcher from that same contest and it's no surprise to see James Doyle's booking attracting sustained market support.

However, Final Objective could be the one to side with. He produced an excellent effort at odds of 125/1 in the Coventry Stakes, travelling strongly despite showing signs of inexperience before meeting trouble in running inside the final furlong. With that valuable experience now behind him, he looks capable of taking another significant step forward.

FINAL OBJECTIVE (WIN)

Gold Digger is of obvious interest returning to handicap company following a solid Group 3 effort last time out. She's been eased 2lb since her midfield finish in the Palace of Holyroodhouse and looks attractively treated from her revised mark.

Stormy Impact would undoubtedly appreciate easier ground but has shown enough on a quicker surface to suggest she isn't without place claims.

Machadadorp has attracted early support in the market and it's easy to understand why. She was denied only in her hat-trick bid by a filly set to contest Thursday's Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes, remains open to further improvement and looks a major danger from her current mark.
