GLORIOUS GOODWOOD (THURSDAY) - DAY 3

13:20

Best Secret was third at Royal Ascot and possibly could’ve won that race with a clearer path through. Despite a penalty, he’ll be hard to beat. Serenity Blue is well bred and has won twice over this distance already. He’s been handed a nice mark and could be the sort to run well. So can Nebras. He was pretty good over this distance, at Newmarket, when behind Alpine Trail. He found Opera Ballo too fast last time but that was over a mile. This will suit him better.

13:55

The Richmond Stakes pits contenders of quality over a brisk six furlongs. Coppull ran a very creditable third behind Gstaad at Ascot and Clive Cox has won this race twice before. Havana Hurricane was just touched off in the Super Sprint at Newbury last time out after winning at Ascot. Eve Johnson Haughton has her stable in fine form at the moment and with Charles Bishop in the saddle again of the Havana Grey colt i am confident of a big show. Ryan Moore will partner Puerto Rico for Ballydoyle, He was third behind True Love at the Curragh so the Wootten Bassett colt can progress from that outing.

HAVANA HURRICANE (WIN)

PUERTO RICO (E/W)

14:30

Merchant was an impressive enough winner at Ascot and this looks an easier test for the William Haggas trained colt. With back to back victories already under his belt it’ll be hard to see anything but him claiming third win in a row.

It’s never easy to discount a Ballydoyle trained runner and Galveston could go closest of all with the ultra-consistent Rahiebb looking best of the rest.

MERCHANT (WIN)

15:05

The Nassau Stakes has a small select field of five. Led in the market by Whirl, Aiden O'Briens Wootton Bassett filly has enjoyed a stellar season thus far. After being headed by stable mate Minnie Hauk in the Epsom Oaks she returned to winning ways at the Curragh outstaying subsequent King George second Kalpana. I am strong on the notion she will put up a very sleek performance here. Sea the Fire ran well in this race last year and was a good third at Ascot in the Prince of Wales. I think Oisin Murphy will want to be on the pace here. Bedtime Story represents Ballydoyle too under Wayne Lordan. Her second in the Prix Diane last time is fine form and she doesn't lack stamina like her stablemate.

WHIRL (WIN)

BEDTIME STORY (E/W)

15:45

Nad Alshiba Green has only been out of the top three once, when racing in handicaps, so it’s no surprise to see her favoured. Ruby’s Profit won over course and distance in May and there’s nothing stopping her from improving to do so again today. Getreadytorumble also won over course and distance, in June, and had excuses at Sandown when deciding to jump the pathway. He shouldn’t do his best Constitution Hill impression today and has a good chance at getting back to winning ways.

GETREADYTORUMBLE (WIN)

(Kieran McHugh)

16:20

The two-year-olds take centre stage here and Hey Tru Blue looks set to go off favourite. A convincing winner at Doncaster last time out and should be there or thereabouts once more.

Victorious One has been the proverbial bridesmaid having filled the runners-up spot on all three starts including here at Goodwood. Only lost by a nose last time out, can handle the seven furlong trip and looks a fair shout to finish in the money yet again.

Sir Albert and Champion Island filled the top two spots at Chester last time and can grab some prize money here.

VICTORIOUS ONE (E/W)

(Rory Paddock)

16:55

Karl Burke, one of the best 2yo trainers around has the favourite Aylin who was beaten a short head on debut by a horse that had already won a race. This is up there with the best form on offer of the few that have had a race.

Another with experience is Quiescent, who finished 2nd to one of the most impressive debutantes of the season Moon Target. She is the choice of James Doyle and if building on her promise she can step forward and take this contest.

At a bigger price, Uncertainty finished behind a good filly wish experience on debut and is likely to improve for the step up in trip and make the frame at double figure odds.

QUIESCENT (WIN)

(Toby Darby)

17:30

Antipodes might have the burden of top-weight but a win in a better grade of race last time shows he’s more than capable at this level and that accounts for a lot.

The Gosden duo of Wicked and Kaleido are undoubtedly strong fancies and it’d be foolish to discount either.

Course and distance winner Organ has done very little wrong and looks set to put up another strong performance.

Point Of Contact and Sea Force are also viable options for punters looking for each way alternatives.
