Toby Darby previews the French Derby from Chantilly this Sunday and pinpoints am each way shout that could out run their odds.
15:30 CHANTILLY
All the talk this week has been about Constitution River, and rightly so after his Chester win and in my opinion he probably should go to Epsom as he would likely be favourite. Connections have chosen the French alternative, likely with stallion prospects in mind. They have not been rewarded with stall 15, which in my opinion makes him completely unbackable despite how good I think he could be.
I tipped Hankelow in the French Guineas and he finished a good 3rd, he is drawn well and I can see him running another big race although the rain will have helped him that day, it will likely be quicker ground here. I was disappointed with how Oxagon ran in the English guineas, the plan was to be handy but he was a step slow and couldn’t quite keep up, the longer distance should help with this and he is drawn very well to make the lead and with Oisin Murphy in the saddle he will be my selection.
Daryzan has only had one start although it was very impressive and he is the choice of Barzalona he is also drawn poorly in 10. Of the French horses I would prefer Dolmalan, unsuited by a steady pace last time he was still able to grind out a win.
