Toby Darby previews two Group 1 races from Deauville this Sunday and after bagging the 6/1 winner in France last weekend his selections are worth noting.
14:50 DEAUVILLE - Prix Morny
After last week’s winning selection in the Jacque Le Marois, Rayif. A cracking renewal this year with the Coventry winner, meeting the Norfolk winner and the Queen Mary 2nd.
Orthodox was one of the most impressive winners at Royal Ascot and I see no reason why the step up in distance will disadvantage him. Senorita Bonita finished behind Victorious at the same meeting but has won again since beating the Libertango, who of course has franked the form at York this week. They’re all outstanding fillies and I do think this year the girls are better than the boys from what we’ve seen.
It is interesting that Ryan Moore has chosen to ride Man’s Best Friend over Great Barrier Reef, that would definitely dampen confidence on the latter and vice versa. The best of the home team is Kosuma, he stepped up into Group company LTO and won eased down quite impressively, there are form lines through Light Of Dawn that make him well worth a second look.
SENORITA BONITA (WIN)
15:25 DEAUVILLE - Prix Jean et Louis Romanet
Diamond Necklace has opened up odds on which is no surprise given her 4 Group 1 wins on the bounce. She has been a regular in France and all ground seems to come alike barring accident I fail to see her beaten but that is no outlandish statement.
Aventure would look to be the most obvious choice to follow her home despite not being in the same form as last season she could bounce back at any time. I am more interested in Pink Panthera, she was only a short head behind Diamond Necklace in the French Oaks the double figure odds seems more than fair for both an each way bet, w/o fav or even forecast markets.
