Another stellar weekend of racing at the Newmarket July Festival produced plenty of standout performances. We saw reputations soar, with the likes of Blue Bolt and Comanche Brave enhancing their profiles, while others, including Precise, left the meeting with questions to answer.

However, it wasn't just the horses making headlines.

Billy Loughnane once again enhanced his growing reputation by partnering Comanche Brave to Group 1 glory in the July Cup. The 20-year-old is enjoying the best season of his young career as he rapidly climbs the ranks of Britain's elite jockeys.

Billy Loughnane's Rise Has Been Nothing Short of Remarkable

Despite being just 20 years old, Billy Loughnane has already spent four seasons in the saddle and has amassed an astonishing 643 career winners.

Loughnane has already won four Group 1 races—three in Britain and one in Germany—been crowned Champion Apprentice twice (2023 and 2024), and secured his first Classic success in the 2,000 Guineas aboard Bow Echo.

Even after winning the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot aboard Bow Echo, Loughnane openly admitted that the horse's ability may have compensated for mistakes in the saddle and described it as not being his finest ride.

For now, Billy "The Kid" remains exactly that—a young rider living his dream and making the very most of every opportunity.

Halfway through the Flat season, he sits at the top of the British Flat Jockeys' Championship, holding a narrow advantage over reigning Champion Jockey Oisín Murphy.

Whether he can maintain that lead remains to be seen.

But one thing feels increasingly certain: Billy Loughnane is no longer simply one of Britain's brightest young talents. He is rapidly establishing himself as one of the leading jockeys in the sport.
