Alan Morris looks back at last week's action and finds two recent runners to pay close attention to in the not too distant future. WEE MARY (J GOLDIE)

Wee Mary recently gained her first win and the 4yo filly should gain a lot of confidence from that after a series of seconds for previous trainer Rebecca Menzies. With a mark of 51 there is plenty scope for Jim Goldie to play with and she could end up back in classified company after another loss. By Sands Of Mali, out of a 5f winning mare by Dandy Man there isn’t a lot of scope beyond 5f but a win at Newcastle suggests she can see a stiff 5f out and she settled better there.

MONTU (J JONES)

Montu was settled in from a wide draw and showed his first competitive form when stepped up in trip at Wolverhampton to 9 1/2f this week. The 3yo gelding finished well behind a 63-rated horse and off a rating of 49 has plenty of room to play with. With stamina-inducing stallions the 12f winning mare Teeky also imparts distance and 10/12f looks ideal. It will be interesting to see how he would be ridden from a better draw and if he needs a fast pace at 10f but we can discount a loss or two as we discover his needs.
