Alan Morris looks back on what was one of the busiest and most prestigious weeks in racing and finds two runners punters need to put in their trackers. EVELYN’S GARDEN (K SCOTT)

Evelyn’s Garden was sent off at 200-1 in three quick maiden runs at Newcastle earlier this year and was not that competitive but obtained a handicap rating of 47. The 3yo filly showed her first semblance of form this week at 50-1 in a class 6 handicap at the same track travelling well enough for a long way and sticking on well enough amongst a bunch of moderate horses, better than her finishing position suggests. Katie Scott is adept at finding opportunities at the lower level and should find improvement in this raw filly at attractive odds. The dam won over 7 and 8 furlongs but had only one run on turf so there aren’t many grass clues to be gleaned there. 6/7f looks suitable for now.

KATHLEEN MARY (P CHAPPLE-HYAM)

10-race maiden fillies are not usually great punting material and Kathleen Mary has been backed a few times without success. However, an uncontested lead over 10f may help her gain her first win and give confidence. 12f looks to stretch her at the moment and she faded late on at Southwell this week, not helped by having to be rushed up to her customary position after being bumped out at the start. Firmish ground looks to have been avoided so far.
