THE HOTLIST

Alan Morris takes a look back at an action-packed week of racing and names three recent runners that had to make The Hotlist. This trio needs to be put into your trackers as he expects them to go close very soon. NORTH ACCOUNT (N SCHOLFIELD)

North Account looks the type Nick Scholfield will eventually get the best out of over a trip and fences in due course. The 6yo gelding is related to plenty of staying winners and didn’t show much in three hurdle races in Ireland. He clearly showed something to someone as he went off 6-4 in a Hexham point-to-point on his only run for Joe Wright but was unseated at the 14th when staying on. He ran well to a point at Fontwell this week off a lowly rating of 75 but a longer trip over fences may see him in a better light.

CASTLEKEELY (J OWEN)

Castlekeely seems to be finding his feet for James Owen but after a staying on second at Yarmouth he only managed a fifth at Ffos Las this week. It wasn’t too bad a run, tucked in from a wide draw and nothing came from behind in the race. He was outpaced and trying to get a run on various seams before running on again. That was his first run with soft in the description but it’s early days to rule him out based on this show. The 3yo gelding had a rating of 50 here so classified stakes are an option. 8-10f looks ideal at the moment on run style and breeding and the all-weather may also beckon.

KAARESS (M ATTWATER)

Kaaress has been a bit of a cliff horse for me and I shouldn’t drag you into this but she did win at 16-1 earlier in the year and looks to be running into form after a break. 8-10f looks fine on the all-weather with a preference for the soft side of good on turf. It’s unlikely we will see her back over hurdles but the 5yo mare may strike on the flat at rewarding odds soon.
