TV TIPS (SATURDAY)

Saturday's ITV action hosts competitive cards from Newbury, Market Rasen and Ripon, featuring quality flat and National Hunt racing. Pundit Rory Paddock has analysed the key runners to bring you expert race previews and best bets ahead of another fascinating Saturday afternoon of racing.

13:55 NEWBURY

Oceans Four exceeded expectations when finishing a creditable fourth at 80/1 in the Golden Gates Handicap at Royal Ascot and, now easing in grade, another bold bid looks likely. However, he may once again find one or two with a touch more class proving too strong.

Persica went close in a similar contest last time out and arrives in good form, although his previous efforts at Newbury leave a slight question mark.

Al Zanati shaped well in Group 2 company on his latest outing and now drops into Listed class, where further improvement looks likely. As Godolphin's apparent first string, he makes plenty of appeal and could offer solid each-way value despite only two places being available.

14:10 MARKET RASEN

Louis Veron produced a devastating 16-length victory when last seen and looks capable of making a winning start to life in handicap company. After finishing runner-up on his first two starts, he has followed up with successive victories, each more impressive than the last. Representing Dan Skelton's powerful yard, this lightly raced youngster could prove considerably better than his opening handicap mark suggests.

Mojito Des Mottes and course-and-distance winner Squeezebox appear the principal dangers. Both hail from respected stables and should be firmly involved in the closing stages.

At bigger odds, James Owen's recent recruit High Fibre merits consideration. He returned with a respectable third on the Flat last time and, if translating that form back over hurdles, could easily outrun his odds.

LOUIS VERON (WIN)

14:25 NEWBURY

Ride The Thunder and Shrimp Shady both produced eye-catching efforts on Northumberland Cup Day at Newcastle, with the former finishing sixth in the feature race and the latter occupying the same position in the Northumberland Vase. Both arrive in good form, should appreciate returning to turf and look capable of finishing much closer in this slightly easier contest.

Bahadur finished one place ahead of Ride The Thunder after travelling strongly into contention before fading late on. He also commands plenty of respect but may once again find one or two too strong.

The race may instead revolve around former course and distance winners Baileys Khelstar and Almuhit, both of whom arrive on the back of encouraging performances. Charlie Johnston's Baileys Khelstar gets the vote after improving with each start this season, while the stable's recent excellent form further strengthens confidence.

BAILEYS KHELSTAR (WIN)

15:02 NEWBURY

Soldier's Tree has thrived since joining James Owen and earned his chance in Group 3 company after an excellent third in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot. He sets the standard on recent form, although with just one career victory to his name, he could prove vulnerable at relatively short odds.

Mitbaahy boasts winning form over five furlongs at Newbury but failed to fire over this course and distance previously. While capable of bouncing back, others make slightly greater appeal.

Course and distance winner Symbol Of Honour looked right back to his best when finishing third in a stronger contest at Newcastle last time out. A repeat of that performance would give him every chance of returning to winning ways.

15:15 RIPON

Charlie Johnston's stable continues to enjoy an excellent spell and Elsass arrives seeking a return to winning ways after landing two of his last three starts. An 8lb rise for his latest success perhaps proved too much in stronger company, but dropping back in class and carrying 1lb less should allow him to be considerably more competitive.

Yafreh made a winning handicap debut despite still searching for a first victory beforehand and has improved with every outing. Further progress looks likely and he rates the principal danger.

Prince Of The Seas has begun to rediscover the form shown for his previous yard, finishing placed on each of his last two starts. However, this step up in grade asks a tougher question.

The most interesting alternative is veteran Irish raider Star Harbour. While no longer the force of old, his runner-up effort at Carlisle two starts ago proved plenty of ability remains and, in an eight-runner field, he makes obvious each-way appeal.

STAR HARBOUR (E/W)

15:37 NEWBURY

The juveniles take centre stage in what promises to be a blistering sprint.

Listed winner Bint Archange is likely to head the betting following a determined success at Sandown and deserves plenty of respect. However, this represents a deeper contest and, in such a competitive field, there could be better value elsewhere.

Richard Spencer's Etienne makes plenty of appeal after an encouraging debut effort. Although finding one too good, he showed promise throughout and should improve significantly from the experience.

Rollthedicebaby impressively opened her account last month after finishing runner-up on debut. That form has worked out particularly well, with the horse who beat her going on to perform with credit at Royal Ascot in Pattern company.

Minster Boy completes the shortlist. Although still searching for his first victory, he ran an excellent race when favourite in an 18-runner contest over this course and distance last time. Proven around Newbury and in large fields, he looks underestimated by the current market.
