Former course and distance winner Grey Fable takes the trip over from Ireland to a venue he’s had great success at. Two of his three career victories have come here on the banks of the River Dee and with in form jockey Ray Dawson set for the saddle he could add to his Chester successes.

Although he still holds his maiden tag, handicap debutant Glory Road looks far better than this level and with Billy Loughnane hunting for his first flat jockeys championship he looks tough to bear.

Trainer Hugo Palmer certainly knows what it takes to win here at Chester and after a promising third placed finish on debut Velociraptor looks capable of finishing with his head in front.

The likes of Sea Idol and Storm Blade look obvious threats but have more miles on the clock than the selection.

Although he could be a tad vulnerable to horses who’ve had less racing this term Amadeus Mozart has the clear standout form going into this listed contest. A close second at Royal Ascot should hold the Ballydoyle runner in good stead and a repeat of his effort at the Royal meeting should be enough to see him return to winning ways.

Calico Blue has gone very close in better races than this of late and was arguably a tad unlucky not to pick up the win at Newmarket when last seen. A return to a course and distance he’s been successful at before should see him finish in the mix once again.

Despite being a thirteen race maiden Hexagonal might be worth a punt. He was nowhere near a challenging position last time but the previous time he tackled this extended 1m1f trip he claimed a second placed finish. He continues to slide down the weights and maybe today could be the day he shakes off his maiden tag.

Finished second in this race last year and Rhythm N Hooves aims to go one better this time around. Returns to this contest with a handy 5lbs less weight to carry. A former course and distance winner who’s been partnered with an in form jockey to boot.

Ticks more boxes than most and should go close again.

An obvious choice I know but with good reason. Sierra Belle found only one too good on debut in what looks a much tougher race than this. Will come on leaps and bounds for her sole start and should go one better today.
