THE HOTLIST

Alan Morris picks out a pair of recent runners he feels you need to pay close attention to as they make our ongoing Hotlist. EKLLEEM (W HAGGAS)

Eklleem should be in plenty of notebooks after his second at York behind Blue Courvoisier who led throughout. The 3yo gelding was drawn wide and shuffled back from an early prominent position but travelled well enough in a compact field. He ran on well to pull clear with the winner with only a couple of taps to quicken away from the rest of the field. His ability to handle good to soft here will hopefully stand him in good stead in the autumn and he can stay further than the mile on this evidence. His limited career has avoided good to firm so far and though he will raised again for this performance he can go one better soon.

SUBSTANCE (M WALFORD)

The 3yo colt Substance improved on his second start for Mark Walford, up in trip to an mile and finishing second at Redcar following his move from Joseph O’Brien. He drifted badly in the market here but looked set to win well at 25-1 before wandering badly and getting caught late on. He travelled well here and the yard will get to know the horse better, for an under-rated yard we can hopefully get each-way prices if he will start to be delivered later and needing luck in running. A mile looks fine for now and after only eight races there is scope to improve from an attractive mark. CURRENT HOTLIST:
