THE HOTLIST

Another week and another pair of runners that Alan Morris has pinpointed from the past seven days not to ignore moving forward. WOODSTOCK CITY (O MURPHY)

Woodstock City had his handicapping runs for hurdles in 2024 and has proved himself a consistent 70-rated 10f horse on the flat subsequently . The 6yo gelding was well supported on debut for Ollie Murphy this week and a jumps rating of 100 looked ready to exploit. He was held up at the speed-favouring track of Market Rasen this week over 2m 2f and travelled well in behind but couldn’t peg back two prominent racers who pulled away late on. These losses look lent and the trainer should find an opening soon. This was his first run for the yard and he didn’t jump that fluently after such a long break from hurdling. It was his first run for seventy days and though he should stay 2m2f around here as a 10f flat horse it could be two miles may suit. His best flat  form hasn’t been on true soft ground but he should be out again soon to break his hurdling maiden.

TRAIN IN VAIN (J MACEY)

Train In Vain was unraced at two and has had a couple of runs in a mile and 11f maidens at 100-1 and 150-1 for a yard who do a good job with their handicappers. The 3yo gelding has appeared to travel well for a long way into those races though they were understandably not deep events or at a strong pace. This week’s 11f run at Southwell suggested he didn’t stay and his third run will tell us more. There are mixed messages on breeding, in that her dam won over 5f at two and her progeny have won over 6-8f, but this is the first time she has had offspring hit the track from a sire with a strong stamina influence in Masar. He might be aptly-named but he’s one to keep an eye on! CURRENT HOTLIST:
