TV TIPS (FRIDAY)

Updated: Jan 17, 2025

13:25 MARKET RASEN Nocte Volatus has been in good form this season and there was nothing wrong with his latest second to December Gold Cup winner Gemirande at Ascot.

Railway Hurricane has been sent over by in form Gavin Cromwell. He’s not a prolific winner, but he’s consistent and not badly handicapped.

It may pay to take a chance on Jetoile. Not many miles on the clock, and despite recent form figures and cheek pieces being applied, this represents a drop in class, and it could spark a revival at rewarding odds.

JETOILE (E/W)

(Matt Polley)

13:50 WINDSOR

It is a select affair where the top three horses seem to be on a redemption mission. A chance is taken that class will shine through for Caldwell Potter who ranks as the best of the runners on official ratings. You Wear It Well seems to be on the downgrade after two disappointing efforts this term and Gidleigh Park will probably want further in time given he was a useful hurdler over 3m.

CALDWELL POTTER (WIN)

(Daryl Lay)

14:25 WINDSOR

Three vying for favouritism with Law Ella, Party Vibes and Panic Attack all in the mix and while the other two are greatly respected, preference is for the Henry Daly runner who battled back having been headed to win at Exeter when last seen. She ran right through the line on that occasion so this step up in trip should help eke out more. At the opposite end of the betting scale, Sacre Coeur looks overpriced on the back of her excellent second when running under penalty on penultimate run and could outrun her odds back at this trip and with a 7lbs claimer on board.

PARTY VIBES (WIN)

(Dean Kilbryde)

14.35 MARKET RASEN

The change of venue for the Veterans Final from Sandown to the flatter, drying track of Market Rasen may count against strong stayers like Cloudy Glen and Fortescue.

Sam Brown could go well, down in class with a 10lb jockey’s allowance, but the in-form pair of prominent racers Copperhead and Eldorado Allen could hold the key with preference for the revitalised Copperhead to confirm recent superiority over his stablemate.

COPPERHEAD (WIN)

(Alan Morris)

14:45 NEWCASTLE

Midnight Lion is on a roll at the moment and looks like a bit of a Newcastle all weather specialist now he is four from five from course and distance. Now faces a five pound penalty for his recent success the rise may catch up with him and its difficult to see him getting a four timer given the step up in grade from what he has been running in.

Karl Burke's yard is operating at a 25% strike rate at the moment and Northern Ruler having won last time out at Newcastle looks the main threat given he is still lightly raced and looks like there could be room for improvement for the four year old.

Dark Moon Rising was last seen in early December where he was a close second at Southwell at this level. At his peak Dark Moon Rising was ten pounds higher than his current mark currently which perhaps given him an argument he's not badly handicapped. At just about each way odds looks the each way angle to take.

DARK MOON RISING (E/W)

15:00 WINDSOR

Despite falling last time out, now back over hurdles we could see a return to form for Iberico Lord. The Nicky Henderson trained seven-year-old has a weight allowance which he can capitalise on.

Of the remainder fellow last time out faller Salver looks to be best of the rest.

IBERICO LORD (WIN)

(Rory Paddock)

15:10 MARKET RASEN

Dream Shadow won on her reappearance at Uttoxeter and can improve for that run. As can Getawhisky, who won on her debut at Carlisle. Both have claims and have won hotly contested races, but my eye is drawn to Charisma Cat. Alan King’s mare won easily on her reappearance at Warwick, whilst also giving weight away. She could’ve had more in the tank that day and might well have significant upside.

CHARISMA CAT (WIN)

(Kieran McHugh)

15:35 WINDSOR

This looks a very trappy race on paper with the likely favourite set to be Kabral Du Mathan, who was so unlucky to go down by the shortest of margins in December in a stronger race than this. Siding with one at a price in Givemefive who has been placed in graded hurdles as a Juvenile last year in a far than above average crop of juveniles and makes his handicap debut off a seemingly lenient mark of 132. Expect this 5yo gelding to be a big price.

GIVEMEFIVE (E/W)

(Kurtis Gillespie)
