TV TIPS (FRIDAY)

Action from day two of Newmarket's July meeting plus two additional races from York are shown live on ITV this Friday and we preview every race. 13:50 NEWMARKET

After a great opening day of the meeting William Buick looks set to add to his winning tally in the opener. He climbs aboard King's Charter who returned from a near 300-day layoff to claim a convincing victory last month. Despite being burdened with top-weight the Godolphin runner could be a potential group horse hiding in handicap company and might prove to be much better than this level.

Urban Glimpse has gone second in their last two starts and another placing looks likely yet they'll probably find one or two too good.

The pair most likely to follow home the selection looks to be War Hawk and Regalian who've both been ultra-consistent.

KING'S CHARTER (WIN)

14:10 YORK

The card at York begins with a competitive 7-furlong handicap, headed by the lightly raced Dubai Treasure from Godolphin, who arrives seeking a hat-trick. While he now has to prove that his upward trajectory can continue on turf, his strong performances earlier in his career suggest there’s little reason to doubt his adaptability.

My preference, however, is for Mr King. Since arriving on these shores, he’s steadily dropped in the weights and has shown glimmers of promise along the way. He should appreciate the quicker ground, and his best efforts have come at this course. In a wide-open contest, he represents solid each-way value.

At a bigger price, Feel The Need is also of some interest. He finished strongly to win over course and distance two starts ago, and the bare result may underestimate his performance that day. A similar late run could see him in the mix once more, though he may find a couple too strong at the finish.

Venetian Sun beat subsequent Listed winner and reopposing Argentine Tango over five furlongs on debut and improved on that with another convincing victory in the Group 3 Albany Stakes last time out, running on strongly over six furlongs to win by almost two lengths. The price doesn’t appeal however Karl Burke’s filly can’t be opposed based on what we’ve seen to date. The afore-mentioned Argentine Tango, who is yet to finish outside the top two in five prior runs, taken to chase her home once again.

14:45 YORK

Three year olds tend to do well in this renewal having won five of the last six so it maybe good to side with a three year old in this race. Sayidah Dariyan is the current favourite at the moment. She has ran well in good company in recent appearances. However possibly get the impression maybe better on the all weather. However winning runs have been on left handed tracks.

Celandine fits the age trend and has won round York however hasn't had a run since September last year and she may need this run hasn't won from a long break before.

First Instinct interests me she seems a reliable filly having placed in six of her seven starts so you'd like to think she will be in contention here. Hopefully there is some more improvement at a distance she does like. William Haggas yard seem to be in better form now and operating at a 22% strike rate in last 14 days and seem to have hit a purple patch given a slow start to the flat season which gives me confidence. Haggas does like York as a track and usually doesn't come away too often from these York meetings without a winner.

FIRST INSTINCT (WIN)

15:00 NEWMARKET

A competitive staying handicap with plenty of possibilities. Dancing In Paris has to be high on the shortlist following his near miss in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle recently, while Insanity also warrants consideration for Alan King. However, top of the list is the Charlie Appleby-trained Endless Victory, who caught the eye when a never nearer seventh in the Copper Horse Stakes at Royal Ascot 24 days ago. A good third at Meydan earlier in the season, this gelded son of Teofilo remains open to further progress and should take a step forward for his recent Ascot outing.

ENDLESS VICTORY (WIN)

(Sam King)

15:35 NEWMARKET

January didn’t have much luck at the Curragh, and she was storming home in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. The three-year-old allowance also makes her a big danger today. Crimson Advocate was mightily impressive at Royal Ascot, beating Cinderella’s Dream. The time was nearly identical to that of the Coronation Stakes but she’s just a tad worse off at the weights with January. Meanwhile, Elmalka is the former 1000 Guineas winner and she’s back over a mile for the first time in a while, which maybe suits her better. She didn’t run at Royal Ascot and she’s mixed it in arguably classier fields than this. If she’s back to her best, she can upset those at the top end.

ELMALKA (WIN)
