TV TIPS (MONDAY)

Updated: 2 minutes ago

It's an action-packed Bank Holiday Monday, and the showpiece event of the day is the Irish Grand National. With 10 live races, from three different meetings, shown on ITV, Rory Paddock covers them all. 14:35 PLUMPTON

Secret Des Dieux steps into open handicap company on the back of consecutive novice handicap wins and a 9lb rise may not be enough to halt his progress. The six-year-old remains open to improvement and should be firmly in the mix.

Kotmask is feared most. A previous course-and-distance winner, he’s now on a workable mark and a return to this track could spark a revival.

Veteran Edwardstone commands respect but may find younger legs too strong late on.

Plage De Havre returns from a nine-month absence but signed off with a strong handicap win at Haydock. With Andrew Balding’s yard in excellent early-season form, he looks capable of going in again.

Gethin brings consistency but has questions to answer on the all-weather surface and may be opposable at the likely prices.

Buachaillbocht could benefit from a return to hurdles and has solid course form, including a win at this meeting. Now on an appealing mark, he looks well placed to go close.

Arch Empire, Jony R and Fierce Monday are others to note in a competitive contest.

Marnier impressed when opening his all-weather account in dominant fashion and, despite stepping into stronger company on handicap debut, further progress looks likely.

Topteam has been consistent on turf and could adapt well to this surface, while Midnight Rumble and Goblet Of Fire offer value alternatives at bigger prices.

The Yellow Clay was unlucky at Cheltenham but may again find one or two too strong.

Storm Heart sets the standard and can confirm form with Kawaboomga, who looks the main danger.

Fleetwater drops in grade after a solid recent effort and the quick turnaround is a positive. While high enough in the weights, she’s proven competitive off similar marks and should run her race.

Lady Roxby is respected if fit on return, while Alpine Girl may improve for her recent reappearance.

16:20 FAIRYHOUSE

A small-field clash between the Mullins and Elliott yards. Energumene, now 12, is no longer the force of old, while last year’s winner Found A Fifty has something to prove after pulling-up at Cheltenham.

Saint Sam was runner-up in this race last year and looks the value play to hit the frame again.

Final Night has an outstanding course-and-distance record and, despite a 4lb rise, is hard to oppose given his current progression.

Mr Baloo is an interesting each-way option with a falling mark, while Helm Rock and Silca Bay can also be considered.

Broadway Act returns from a lengthy absence and is difficult to assess with confidence.

In a wide-open contest, Candonomore appeals as a tentative selection, having won off this mark before and with Rossa Ryan booked.
