TV TIPS (SATURDAY)

There's seven live races shown on ITV this Saturday with five contests from Doncaster, including the Group 1 St Leger and two additional races from Chester. Pundit Rory Paddock previews every one right here. 13:15 DONCASTER

A very open contest to kick off Saturday's ITV action from the third day of Doncaster's St Leger meeting.

With a fair amount of runners we're forced to pick out a duo who could go close.

First up Charlie Hills' Galeron returns to the scene of his best performance this year after claiming fifth in The Lincoln at the start of the season. He heads back to Doncaster off a far more attractive mark and with the eye-catching booking of jockey Colin Keane his chances have certainly improved.

Lower down the weights three-year-old Point Of Contact enters another cavalry charge handicap after some eye-catching performances in similar contests throughout the year. This looks a slightly weaker affair and he can go even better here.

Despite representing a racing powerhouse it's unlikely that Puerto Rico is going to get rid of their maiden tag at the sixth time of asking and should find one or two too good.

The unbeaten Gewan was an impressive winner of the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York and holds the strongest form in the book. His opposition will need to improve to give him a test and aside from Oxagon should have enough to dominate.

Oxagon produced a dominant display to win last time and looks the only danger to the current market leader.

GEWAN / OXAGON (REVERSE FORECAST)

14:05 CHESTER

Despite being well into the twilight of his career nine-year-old Hamish has achieved far more than any of his five rivals here. A winner last time out shows he's clearly got plenty left in the tank and should keep his 100% course record intact.

Sir Dinadan and Military Academy are the duo who are most likely to follow the favourite home.

HAMISH (WIN)

14:25 DONCASTER

Air Force One aims to go one better after filling the runners-up spot at York. Connections are hoping he can finish with his head in front before his mark continues to rise. An obvious and lively contender but doesn't represent much in the way of value and may find one or two too good once more.

Trainer Richard Spencer has had a phenomenal season with his sprint handicappers and it'd be foolish to dismiss his entrant Run By Run who's put in a handful of eye-catching performances without getting the win. Capable of going well and he should make any punters shortlist.

Course form here at Doncaster is vital and it's two horses who've gone close here before that get our vote.

Ventura Capital is a former course victor who's now back to his last winning mark and having never finished outside of the top four here at Doncaster cannot be discounted.

Although he's never won here before Roger Teal's Rosario finished third in the Group 2 Flying Childers here back in 2023. That was his only previous course start and if the ground fails to dry out his chances will improve.

Others worth noting

VENTURA CAPTIAL (E/W)

ROSARIO (E/W)

14:40 CHESTER

Three of his six career turf victories have come here at Chester and Spirit Mixer has a great chance of adding to his tally. This years Northumberland Plate winner might ticks plenty of boxes and despite having to carry a sizable weight looks to hold the best form in the race.

Veteran Zoffee has been lightly raced this term and may have had this race in mind all season, certainly one to consider.

Likely race favourite Ndaawi was last seen winning the Galway Hurdle (Despite crossing the line in second) and prior to that filled the runners-up spot in the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. If he can convert his hurdling form on to the flat he should make the top three.

SPIRIT MIXER (E/W)

15:00 DONCASTER

Despite not winning in three starts this season Shadow Of Light has produced some top quality performances in the highest sphere. A drop down to Group 2 company should see the former champion two-year-old prevail in what looks like a less competitive contest.

Last time out winner Ten Bob Tony looks to be a rejuvenated animal this season but will need to prove his last victory wasn't a fluke but he still looks the most likely to overturn the favourite.

If you're a punter looking for an each way alternative Devil's Point could be one to consider if capable of overcoming a 433 day absence and Andrew Balding's Marvelman has enough talent to finish in the money. SHADOW OF LIGHT (WIN)

15:40 DONCASTER

The big one and final classic of the season the St Leger looks a solid renewal however it's dominated by Ballydoyle and trainer Aidan O'Brien.

Epsom Derby winner Lambourn and Goodwood Cup victor Scandinavia look to dominate the head of the betting and the slight preference is for the latter. Scandinavia beat older horses last time and now back against his own age group should be able to make it three wins in a row.

Fellow Irish raider Carmers looks best of the rest but with just the seven set to go to post there's only the two places on offer and not much in the way of each way value.
