The Green Man’s mark has been in freefall since a belated autumn 2024 return to the racecourse and a winter change of stables but now 26lb lower, he finally showed some form, running on in customary style over Ripon’s sharp 6f from a poor draw. His wins and best form have all been running on late over 6f, often intimating 7f could suit and the rare 7f excursions off high marks have been inconclusive but a stiffer 6f with a better draw should also see the 6yo gelding exploiting his heavily reduced rating. He has form on good ground and the all-weather so he should pick something up as the Autumn leaves fall.

LESLEY’S BOY (R Fahey)

Lesley’s Boy comes with risks attached but the price might be rewarding if Richard Fahey persists with the 3yo gelding, He has at least shown one good piece of form to confirm he has trained on but has slipped down from one of those customary inflated 2yo ratings. He routinely goes to the start early, occasionally led down without a jockey as at Ripon on Tuesday. Having unshipped his jockey at the start he was slowly away and unable to take advantage of his good draw. Another 6f winner who looks as if 7f would suit with good ground and Newcastle’s Tapeta form, he is given another chance or two this Autumn!
