Alan Morris looks back at the past weeks recent runners and pinpoints a duo you need to pay close attention to. MEHMAS ENGINE (J TATE)

3yo filly Mehmas Engine has had two promising thirds in her two runs this season after being unraced at two and can improve further as she learns on the job. She was made favourite on debut over 5f at Southwell and it was a pleasing educational introduction for a keen horse. This week’s third at Kempton was a similar positive experience, running on into a respectable third off a slow pace in a good novice race. 7f looks possible on that outing but a fast-run sprint race may suffice. She has worn a hood to post twice and is a work in progress and it will be interesting to see her third run.

PLAID (J FANSHAWE)

Plaid ran well in second behind the promising Art Gallery on a good card at Kempton this week and looks the type James Fanshawe can do well with. There looks to be scope for further improvement from a mark of 74 despite a win and two seconds from three runs so far. It’s always good to see a filly with a win under her belt and the 3yo filly should be placed to good advantage, with the sire imparting more stamina and potential beyond a mile. CURRENT HOTLIST:
