Alan Morris takes a look over the past week's action and pinpoints two recent runners worth following as they make our hotlist. ASHEN (J GOLDIE)

The lightly-raced 4yo gelding Ashen looks to be in the right place to make a sprint breakthrough having joined Jim Goldie after a 30000gns sale last summer. He reappeared in two quick races over the New Year but showed much more at Thirsk this week after a break. Ashen was slowly away, having ducked out left from the wing stall but ran on well enough given his chance was gone early. 6/7f looks ideal and his trainer can find the key to break the duck and progress from a workable mark of 65.

SCENT OF MAY (H CANDY)

The sprint-bred Scent Of May is a half-sister to six winners and having won last season it is interesting she has been kept in training from her lowly mark of 52. The 4yo filly showed good determination in winning her maiden which is always good to see and she made a fair reappearance at Nottingham this week, held up off the pace but travelling nicely before tiring late on. It’s possible she might be ridden more prominently next time under professional handling, at this time 5f looks ideal and opportunities against her own sex could help further. CURRENT HOTLIST:
