TODAY’S TIPS (FRIDAY)

Dean Kilbryde heads to Wales for Friday’s selections with two from Chepstow not to ignore.

Unjeu Royal won over this trip at Plumpton in April and finished third of seven in a higher grade when last seen in May. A slight drop down in class means he has to shoulder top-weight on his return but if ready to go after the summer break he’s likely to be thereabouts at the finish.

Raffles Nobu was an excellent second at Newton Abbot when last seen, only beaten by a well-handicapped, thriving rival. He’s race-fit and has been holding form well, making the frame in four of his last seven, so should be able to make the most of his chance here, getting weight from all.

Prairie Diamond ran well for a long way when second on return at Fontwell last month, only tiring on the run in over a 21f trip. With that race under his belt, he needs considering for all his better recent runs have come over further than he encounters today.

Getarose beat Siorai by four lengths when they met at Plumpton last month and a 4lbs swing in the weights doesn’t look enough for that form to be reversed here, with the former travelling better and winning with relative ease, pulling clear inside the final 100 yards. Both have solid chances but there’s another in here who looks very interesting and that is Faye Bramley’s filly Abda. The three-year-old took a big step forward when winning a class 4 maiden hurdle at Market Rasen last month, keeping on well to beat a 98-rated rival with a late surge to the line. Given a rating of 102 for handicap debut, she carries only 10-11 thanks to a weight-for-age allowance and with both trainer and jockey in excellent recent form she looks worth chancing with the promise of more to come.
