The second UK classic of the weekend steals the limelight this Sunday as the 1,000 Guineas from Newmarket takes centre stage. We also cover the remaining live ITV action on the day with races also from Hamilton and Salisbury. 13:45 NEWMARKET
A step up to 1m2f could prove ideal for Esna, who shaped with plenty of promise when last seen staying on over a mile in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp. That effort suggested this longer trip would suit, and Brian Meehan’s filly looks capable of going close with further improvement likely.
Sacred Ground did little wrong in two starts last season, though the strength of that form remains open to question. She will need to progress again but still looks capable of being involved.
Lilt and Maldives appear the best of the remainder in a seven-runner field, though both may need to step forward to trouble the principals.
Esna is taken to make the most of this step up in trip.
ESNA (WIN)
14:00 SALISBURY
Ziggy Starshine finished ahead of Passerine on debut, and while both are open to improvement, it may be difficult for that form to be reversed. However, in a race with limited each-way places, it could pay to look beyond the obvious.
Ralph Beckett has a strong record with his two-year-old newcomers, operating at around a 17% strike rate, and introduces Rhodes Runner here. While confidence is naturally limited in a maiden of this nature, the debutant represents an interesting alternative.
In a race lacking depth, Rhodes Runner could offer some value if ready to go.

Chantilly Lace failed to get her head in front as a three-year-old but showed glimpses of ability at a higher level and may be worth another chance. If able to rediscover that early promise, she could prove competitive at this level.
Survie, also representing the same ownership, has been in good form on the all-weather and benefits from a recent run, which may give her a fitness edge over some of her rivals.
Cathedral arrives off encouraging efforts on artificial surfaces and looks set to run another solid race.
At bigger prices, Miss Justice and Irish raider Jancis are both worth noting in an open-looking contest.
Chantilly Lace is taken as a value play if bouncing back.
CHANTILLY LACE (E/W)
14:40 HAMILTON
Galyx and Square Necker dominate the betting and bring the most convincing form into what appears a modest contest.
Of the pair, Square Necker makes slightly more appeal. The lightly raced four-year-old benefits from a recent outing and may strip fitter than his main rival, which could prove decisive.
Baileys Khelstar looks the most likely to capitalise should the principals fail to deliver and is worth noting for minor honours.
In a race lacking depth, Square Necker looks the most solid option.
SQUARE NECKER (WIN)

Charlie Johnston has an excellent record in staying handicaps and is well represented here, with Align The Stars looking the pick of his trio. He impressed when winning at Kempton in March and, with only a 4lb rise, remains well treated and capable of following up.
Subsequent, trained by Andrew Balding, is the main threat after his own recent success. If fit for his seasonal return, he should be competitive.
Former course winner Many Men also enters calculations, bringing solid credentials and proven ability at the track.
In a competitive contest, Align The Stars looks capable of progressing further.
