Alan Morris pinpoints two runners from the past week and selects a pair not to ignore going forward. DISTANT SHORE (R VARIAN)

The step up to a mile clearly helped Distant Shore to finish a promising second at Sandown and the 3yo filly by New Bay should at least find 10f suitable on this evidence. With a rating of only 75 despite a debut win she has plenty of scope to progress further after only four runs. She does go down early to post but settled better from a wide draw here with a winner that got first run and though she may go up a little in the ratings she has plenty of potential. 8-10f looks fine. All races so far have been on firm or good to firm.

SECRET FORCE (A KEATLEY)

Ex-Godolphin inmate Secret Force has been around the block in a ten-race career but still looks to have scope for improvement under both codes and was a good third in the Queen Mother’s Cup for Female Amateurs at York. The well-bred Frankel gelding. has a promising younger half-brother in Cerro Blanco and can progress beyond his rating of 74 over 1m 4f for the talented Adrian Keatley. He is likely to be campaigned back over hurdles as well, having won for Gavin Cromwell but should be winning this summer before that on the flat. The 4yo gelding has only had one run with good to firm in the title but his dam won well on it and in a nomadic career it’s hard to be certain this was by design at this time. CURRENT HOTLIST:
